Every practical joke needs someone to fall for it, and the latest way people are pranking their loved ones is reserved for the internet’s most gullible.
“My girlfriend gets very easily confused,” Matt from Chlo and Matt says at the start of his video. It’s a good thing too, because he’s about to text her a picture of her phone to tell her that she’s left it at home. It’s up to the prank’s victim from there to put one and one together and get three. But boy is it hilarious when they do.
Videos of the prank have spread like wildfire across TikTok, and over-trusting loved ones haven’t had to worry this much since people were using TikTok’s explosion filter to fake disasters last year. This poor mother can’t even figure it out after realizing her mistake.
“She thought it was a glitch in the matrix,” Haley commented on the TikTok.
“She started having an existential crisis,” danny said.
While it’s likely that not every video from this trend is completely real, knowing that even a few people looked at their phones without questioning anything makes it all worth it.
We all know not to believe everything we see on the internet. It’s about time we extended that to our phones.
