The Vatican is Having Its First Concert in 2,000 Years, and It’s Being Headlined by Pharrell

The singer of “Happy” and “Everyone Nose” will soon be performing at the holiest place on Earth.

In a move no one saw coming, the Vatican recently announced that it would be holding a series of concerts. Taking place on September 13th in St. Peter’s Square, the concert is a collaboration between Pharrell Williams and Andrea Bocelli and features an incredibly bizarre range of performers, including rap duo Clipse alongside Jelly Roll and Jennifer Hudson.


If you, like me, are thinking “Why?” I’m afraid I can’t give you an answer.


Technically speaking, it’s to celebrate the Catholic Jubilee Holy Year (the 2,025th anniversary of the incarnation of Jesus Christ) while also marking the end of the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity. But why is the Catholic Church deciding to do, you know, all this? Beats me — maybe they’re just trying to score some additional PR points now that the hype around Conclave has died down.
