McDonald’s has managed to stretch the definition of “limited item” yet again, announcing — to the surprise of approximately no one — that the McRib would be returning to a handful of locations across the United States less than a year after its highly publicized farewell tour.

“It turns out not everyone was ready to say goodbye to the McRib after last year's Farewell Tour,” the fast food giant said in a statement, per People. “While it won't be available nationwide, some lucky fans may find their favorite elusive saucy sandwich at their local McDonald's restaurants this November.”

Though hardly any McDonald’s fans were thrilled by the announcement — “no one asked for this baby, we said s-n-a-c-k w-r-a-p,” Twitter user @sarahlugor wrote of the news — few were as angry about the McRib’s come back than fast food workers.

Last Tuesday — more than one week before the official announcement — redditor u/ZeroLockOn decided to tip off several crew members to this impending menu shift, breaking the devastating news on r/McDonaldsEmployees.

“I was told today by my gm that the McRib is making a return soon,” they wrote, incorrectly speculating that the item would hit stores around the same time as McDonald’s “new 2 sauces”

Naturally, their fellow fast food workers proceeded to lose their s—t, haunted by the stinky, sticky memories of McRibs past.

“Good luck! The smell of the bbq sauce in the heat cabinet after it’s been in there for 4 hours would make a crime scene investigator gag,” commented u/luneth27, denouncing the odor as “f—king terrible!”

“I’m so upset you have no idea,” wrote u/ _titslap_, a superlative that was almost immediately challenged.

“You can't be any more upset than I am,” replied self-described manager Car1yBlack. “When I saw the book yesterday, I started swearing up a storm. Farewell tour my a—.”

Meanwhile, the mere mention of the McRib was enough to make u/AffectionatePack398 consider handing in their two week’s notice.

“Hoping i have another job by then,” they added.

We can only hope that u/AffectionatePack398 will quickly find a new job … and that if McDonald’s ever decides to resurrect one of their bygone menu items, they’ll go with the snack wrap next time.
