Though the eyes of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa are said to follow everyone who dares look in her direction, it appears the fine art icon managed to let a few visitors slip from her gaze —specifically two soup-wielding protesters coming to soak her in what appears to be tomato bisque.

On Sunday, two protesters from the food sustainability group Riposte Alimentaire headed to the Louvre Museum in Paris, France to make a very wet statement, throwing thermoses of soup at the Mona Lisa.

"What's the most important thing? Art, or right to a healthy and sustainable food?" one Demonstrator yelled in French, per NBC News.

"Our farming system is sick. Our farmers are dying at work!” added another as a Museum employee rushed to shield the demonstration from view.

Though the near half-century-old painting was not damaged in the attack — the Mona Lisa has been displayed under a layer of armored glass, per NBC News — the two protesters were ultimately arrested for the stunt.

While we hope that agriculture becomes more sustainable, we also hope that the Louvre’s maintenance staff gets one hell of a raise after this.
