The Metaverse Is Officially Dead
The what? Oh, right, that!

Remember back in 2021 when everyone told you that the Metaverse was going to be the next big thing? If you’ve already forgotten that, I don’t blame you — with cryptocurrencies, NFTs and now AI, it’s easy to forget just how many “life-changing technologies” have come and gone without making a real dent in the culture.
Well, it seems that all the companies that invested heavily into the metaverse are finally realizing that it was a dumb idea the whole time.
Just three years after adding legs to avatars in their Metaverse, Meta (can you believe they changed their name from Facebook for this nonsense?) is quietly rolling back its investments into the metaverse. Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that Meta was slashing its metaverse team’s budget by as much as 30%. This, paired with the continued failing of other “metaverses” like Decentraland show just how dumb this idea really was from the beginning.
Of course, the idea of a “virtual world” isn’t completely dead. Games like Roblox and Fortnite have proven to be more similar to the imagined “metaverse” than anything proposed by Zuck. However, if you were one of the idiots who bought property in the metaverse, it’s probably time to cut your losses and just sell the thing — but good luck finding a buyer!
