Keeping you safe by putting themselves in incredible danger.


Did you know that the roller-coaster industry has no federal regulations — and that state-wide regulations didn’t come into force until 1981? Seeing as the first roller coasters hit the U.S. in 1884, that means that for almost a century the whole industry was built on the idea of “If it doesn’t kill you, it works!”


Now, there’s a bit more care put into roller coasters, if only because amusement parks want to keep their insurance contracts. However, before that was the case, everything about a roller coaster had the potential to be dangerous — including, as this video shows, maintaining the damn things.
