Since hitting the scene in August 2008, Airbnb has proven that travelers will do almost anything to avoid staying in a hotel. Over the past decade and a half, we’ve completed exhaustive chore lists, negotiated absurd fees, and in the case of Twitter’s latest main character, University of California, Berkeley assistant professor David Holtz, nearly slept in a giant bathroom during a recent trip to London.

“That feeling when you arrive at your Airbnb and realize that the whole space is essentially just a large-ish bathroom that the host put a bed into,” Holtz penned in a since-private tweet, including a photo of his bizarre travel accommodations, one that left his followers equally horrified and unsurprised.

“Somewhere on Twitter, there is an Airbnb guru bragging about how they make $100k a month by using their "secret Airbnb formula": Renting out beds inside of bathrooms,” wrote @charliewrich.

“This, sir, is just a prison cell with a shower,” added @hahnscratch, while @tperzyk dubbed the accommodation – a term we’re using VERY loosely here – an “Airbnpee.”

But it wasn’t just fellow travelers left horrified by Holtz’s Airbn-bathroom.

“Hi, David. Thank you for reaching out to us,” the company’s official customer support account replied to Holtz’s original Tweet. “Please send us a DM with the email address connected to your Airbnb account, so we can take a closer look.”

Despite their HR-sanitized offer, Holtz was unenthusiastic about accepting help in the Twitter limelight, sharing that he had already attempted to resolve the issue through Airbnb’s official avenues.

“I already spoke to customer support multiple times and every customer support advocate I’ve interacted with has had no interest in helping resolve the issue,” he wrote in another private tweet. “Can I expect a different outcome this time?”

But hey – on the bright side, at least Holtz has a toilet on hand for just how pissed he was.
