Anyone who has ever worked in food service knows what wild things go on behind the scenes. Usually, these are just flagrant health-code violations — however, one Kokomo, Indiana-based Taco Bell location has taken things a step further by allegedly operating a makeshift hair salon in its kitchen.
According to local news station WTHR, one worker, Jen LeGear, was minding her own business during the lunch rush when she spotted a shift manager giving a haircut to the general manager. “I noticed that two of them pulled out cutting shears and were putting on a trash bag, and I was like, ‘That is interesting.’ Then, they sit down and start cutting hair in the back,” LeGear told WTHR.
It’s unclear if the group had done it before, but they were definitely ready to snip and style. Given that the haircut was taking place in a Taco Bell, the Baja Blast salon crew had a relatively involved setup that included a makeshift hair-cutting cape made out of a trash bag and several hair ties. Better than my last Great Clips experience!
LeGear, however, wasn’t too thrilled to see hair being cut in the same place that Chalupa Supremes are being made. She took a picture of the haircut and sent it to her friends, who promptly posted the image to social media. Upon seeing it go viral, LeGear says her manager fired her from the store.
“She told me I could take my ‘I don’t care’ and leave, so that’s what I did," LeGear explained to WTHR.
Taco Bell told WTHR that they couldn’t comment on the issue while they were investigating it, so we won’t know exactly why this happened for some time. Until then, if you’re in the Kokomo area, you may be able to walk out of your local Taco Bell with both a bag full of tacos and a brand new ‘do.
