Though we may have ditched several old-school fashion rules over the past several decades, proudly sporting white after labor day, pairing red and pink and personally adding one more accessory before leaving the house to personally spite Nazi sympathizer and informer Coco Chanel, one tradition is here to stay: Do not, under any circumstances wear white to a wedding, a lesson several TikTok fashionistas have recently learned the hard way.
Over the past several days, a handful of summer wedding attendees and even celebrities like Hailey Bieber have landed in hot water for sporting white or very light blue dresses, a wardrobe faux pas that has reignited the debate surrounding what is and is not okay to sport at a friend’s big day.
“Two girls wore white at my friend's wedding,” read the text written atop one viral video, noting that one decided to don “a legit wedding dress.”
“This friend wore a legit white dress to my friend’s wedding,” added another clip, one that has since been removed.
With several videos like these making the rounds throughout TikTok, sparking arguments over appropriate wedding attire, it seems there is still a way to exact some sweet, sweet, vigilante justice on guests looking to upstage the bride.
“When I get married, I will be arming my cousin Grace with a Super Soaker full of red wine,” quipped @_happy_dagger_ before slamming the “delusional women” sporting light shades to their friends’ big days. “Are you serious?”
Yet regardless of where you fall on team red wine water gun or team wear what you want, one thing is for certain: I, like @ajfriederich, would be more “concerned with the fact that Super Mario showed up to the wedding” than anyone in a white-adjacent gown.
