For a long time, many deeply stupid people have floated the idea that Stevie Wonder isn’t really blind. While they all have their reasons for believing this, most of them simply boil down to “How can he do things if he can’t see?”

This is, of course, ridiculous. No one in their right mind would pretend to be blind their entire life for zero benefit. The much more likely solution to why he sometimes seems like he has “sight” is that a man who has spent 75 years being blind has probably figured out how to navigate the world without bumping around a room like a Roomba.

Wonder has occasionally made jokes about his blindness, but at a recent concert, he confirmed once more for the naysayers that yes, he is blind, and yes, it’s been that way from birth.

“You know the truth. The truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind,” Wonder told an audience in Cardiff. “Now, that was a blessing because it allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight.”

To summarize: Stevie Wonder is blind. Now, go listen to Songs in the Key of Life and be jealous that he recorded that when he was just 26 years old. Meanwhile, all I was doing at 26 was jerkin’ it!
