A California hotel is complaining that someone — or someones — keep stealing their peacocks, which are worth at least $1,000 a piece.

Before you say “They’re birds, maybe they just flew away,” a customer at the Ryde Hotel allegedly observed two men kidnapping a bird, causing the staff to realize they had gone from having dozens of birds to just four.

Police are now looking into the matter, so if you have a friend in California who keeps asking if you want to try a “peacock steak,” give a ring to the cops.
