When the Buddha reached enlightenment, he described the experience as transcendent, almost to the point where language failed to capture its magic. “Ignorance was destroyed,” reads the Bhaya-bherava Sutta. “Knowledge arose; darkness was destroyed; light arose — as happens in one who is heedful, ardent and resolute.”

However, attaining everything you’ve ever wanted doesn’t always bring such clarity. Instead, as one Reddit user is now realizing, it can breed confusion.

“I think my employer forgot about me?” reads a post on r/antiwork. Not realizing that he’s accomplished the dream of pretty much every single person in the working world, OP’s post goes on to say that he started his remote job about two-and-a-half months ago. Despite actively trying to work, he has only had one 30-minute session with HR — no onboarding, nothing else.

“Realistically, how long can I just f-around and collect a check?” he asks at the conclusion of the post. “Could I get fired if they find out I’m doing nothing if they gave me nothing to do and trained me on nothing?”

Naturally, as this post was made to r/AntiWork, users in comments began salivating like a Freudian at a cosplay convention. “God dammit I want this lol,” wrote one commenter. “Sounds like a dream job to me,” shared another. “How does one aquire one of these jobs?” a third asked. “Keep under the radar and enjoy the rest.”

Surprisingly, though, a lot of Redditors confessed to being in the same position.

“I’ve been doing this for three years since the company I work for went WFH. They use my role as a ‘dumping ground.’ So when I have downtime, I don’t say a word,” stated one such Redditor. “I sit on the couch and play video games. Realistically, the company doesn’t need me, but for some reason they think they do.”

“I have done this for nine months in a toxic company. Finally HR reached out to me said this is highly unprofessional and we will be terminating you and ‘WE are expecting your resignation by end of day.’ I said you can fire me but I wont quit,” recalled a second. “Worked at the company for three more years.”

The advice of the subreddit is clear: If you’ve got a do-nothing job, just enjoy the wave of effortless paychecks. That, and please tell everyone on the subreddit how to get a job like it — they’re just *begging* for it.
