Sam Altman of OpenAI Also Wants to Go To Space Now

We should let him. Now, should we let him come back?

Every rich person these days wants to go to space. Why? They like to say it’s for the “good of humanity” or something — but really, these people are just so rich that they’ve run out of on-Earth activities. Is that a sign they shouldn’t be so rich in the first place? Maybe!

Now, it seems like Sam Altman of OpenAI has joined the group of people who think the best use of their money is not, you know, helping the poor or something, but instead jetting off into the great unknown.

According to Berber Jin of the Wall Street Journal, Altman privately tried to purchase a controlling stake in the rocket company Stoke Space over the summer. While the talks stalled out, they could have been related to Altman’s stated plans to put data centers in space. If you know literally anything about this, you understand that this is a terrible plan — but the logic of “that doesn’t make any sense” hasn’t stopped Silicon Valley before!

In summary, I cannot wait for this bubble to pop — not only for the sake of humanity, but so that we never have to hear from people like this ever again.
