Russian Monument to Moscow Metro Accidentally Features Metro in Washington, D.C.

Moscow is known for having some of the most beautiful metro stations in the world — which makes it all the more confusing that they decided to highlight a crappy Washington, D.C. one.

Recently, a new monument was debuted in Moscow celebrating the workers who made the city’s incredible metro service. For those who are unaware, the metro *is* truly incredible — it moves around 7.5 million people every day, shepherding them between elegantly-designed stations that can feature gold detailing and even chandeliers.

However, shortly after the monument debuted, rail fans began to notice two oddities. First, the trains on the monument don’t appear to be in the rolling stock for the Moscow metro. Second, the station featured on the monument itself doesn’t seem to be a Moscow metro station at all, but one in Washington, D.C.

How did this happen? No one knows, exactly. It could be that the artist was inspired by Moscow’s Teatralnaya station and just screwed up the dimensions, or it could be that the artist just Googled “metro” and carved the first thing that popped up.

Regardless, though, it’s a bit embarrassing!
