By now you’ve probably heard that the NFL’s biggest offseason storyline came to an abrupt end just three plays into the Jets’ fresh 2023-2024 season, when Aaron Rogers tore his Achilles on the team’s opening drive against the Bills on Monday Night Football.
But while Jets fans looked on in horror as the man they thought might finally turn the tide for their ill-fated franchise fell to the floor, sports betters also couldn’t believe their incomprehensibly rotten luck.
Specifically, those playing Underdog Fantasy’s promotional Aaron Rogers “free card,” that required the four-time league MVP to throw for just one singular yard to win. Of course, he didn’t.
“This free square is not gunna hit,” dylan.w29 posted on TikTok. “Which is fu****g ridiculous.”
Normally, if a player misses a game due to injury, all bets relating to that player are voided and refunded. However, since Aaron Rogers technically played in the game, by rule the “free” bet was anything but.
Fortunately, understanding that the option was intended to be an unlosable proposition for its customers, Underdog Fantasy decided to honor the spirit of the bet and count it as a win anyway.
But for Jets fans, despite eeking out an exciting 22-16 overtime victory, there’s no magical force that can fix their star quarterback’s Achilles.
