Remember when some dude stuck a banana to a wall with duct tape and sold it for $6 million? Well, after that story left the news, you probably wondered what happened to the banana.

In short, it keeps getting eaten.

Seriously, it seems like wherever this piece has shown up, someone has tried to eat the banana. It was first eaten in 2019 by performance artist David Datuna at Art Basel Miami. Then, it was eaten again by an art student in South Korea in 2023. Following that, someone bought the piece and ate the banana.

Now, it’s happened again. After being put up in a gallery in France, someone walked up to the piece and ate the banana on July 12th. The banana was quickly replaced (they already have to replace the banana fairly often, so it wasn’t that big of a deal).

In response, the artist said that he was disappointed that the vandal only ate the flesh of the banana and not the skin and tape — which is probably the best response you can have in a ridiculous situation like this.
