Back in the day, going all out on your Christmas display was a thing to brag about. Videos were passed around showing homes with colorful lights synced up to music, and stores became flooded with high-tech, motion-activated holiday items that you could place around the home.
We currently live in the aftermath of that overly festive time — and looking back on it, some people aren’t too happy. On TikTok, users are now documenting their terror upon revisiting these holiday staples.
In one video, a “Douglas Fir the Talking Christmas Tree” can be seen. His lifeless eyes gaze upon the suburban excess, and with a simple wave of the hand, he feigns excitement as he once again churns out a low-bitrate version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Nothing like torturing a robot to get you in the holiday spirit!
Commenters were quick to note that this foul creature caused them considerable pain in their younger years. “Douglas the tree was my worst fear as a child. I was scared to death of him. Refused to go in the room he was in,” wrote a user. “My parents used to torment me with this thing,” recalled another. “I would scream and cry so loud my family got a kick out of it,” shared a third. And these parents wonder why their kids won’t come home for Christmas.
Another video shows a talking Christmas wreath. OP seems rightly turned off by this, writing in the overlay text, “I’m just trying to go to the bathroom and it won’t stop.”
If you still have one of these things, it’s time to say goodbye. The singing wreath is going for anywhere from $20 to $50 on eBay if you want to sell it, but if you were to ask me, it’s probably best if you just light these things on fire. That’s a holiday event I can get behind!
