Parents Aren’t Limiting Smartphone Use, So Kids Are Now Just Doing It Themselves

If parents aren’t going to parent, then the kids will have to do it.

Back before screens were, well, everywhere, it was pretty normal for parents to give their kids “screen time” — that is, a set amount of time per day in which the kids were allowed to use screens.

However, as screens became the main way children connect with their buddies, many parents have shied away from this concept — and, consequently, their children have become horribly addicted to their phones.

The problem has gotten so bad that children are now reporting that they’re limiting their *own* screen time, rather than waiting for their parents to do it. A recent survey found that 40 percent of 12- to 15-year-olds report taking breaks from screens for their own mental health, and around 30 percent report deleting apps that they feel they spent too much time on.

Hey, at least *someone* is doing something!
