New Study Says That No One Really Cares About Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Engagement
Yet another entry in the chronicles of “The Internet Isn’t Real Life.”

Two weeks ago, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced that they were engaged. This set both the internet and the media alight — soon, there were stories all over the place about the engagement, and everyone on social media felt the need to offer their “take” about what the event meant for both them as a couple and for us as a society.
Ignoring that this is all a bit silly (we don’t know these people — leave ‘em alone!), this also left some of the less pop culture-obsessed people among us wondering, “Do people actually care about this?”
Turns out, the answer is a resounding “No.”
A survey of around 1,700 American adults taken soon after the engagement found that only 4 percent of respondents cared “a lot” about the engagement. In contrast, 78 percent said they don’t care “at all,” with the remaining 18 percent saying they care “a little.” This number was relatively consistent between men and women.
If you think about it, this shouldn’t be too surprising. Even if you’re a fan of Taylor Swift, she’s just a person like anyone else, and most people realize that her engagement, while great for her, doesn’t really have a tangible impact on their lives.
Still, given that we now have data about how little people care about this, maybe it’s time to just leave the couple alone and let them enjoy their engagement. Unless you’re one of the 4 percent with apparently nothing better to do.
