I've been waiting for the perfect moment to say this, but sports aren't what they used to be. And the main reason for that isn't sponsorship deals or the massive paychecks they earn, it's that sensitivity has gotten in the way. And here we have our case and point.

Jusuf Nurkic who plays center for the Portland Trailblazer was fined $40,000 for confronting a fan and throwing his phone into the stands. The incident happened after the Blazer got their butts handed to them by the Pacers, a final score of 98 - 129, a feeling that surely doesn't feel too great.

And according to Chris Haynes, an NBA Insider for Yahoo Sports, Nurkic who wasn't even in the game took offense to something a fan said about his mother.

Apparently, Nukic's mother passed away from COVID in 2020, so the fan bringing up his mother touched an appropriately sensitive nerve. And while I will admit, I wouldn't like someone saying this to me, it's should be beneath him to take the jawings of some pink-nosed sh*thead seriously.

This brings me to my thesis, athletes have become such babies in recent years. Maybe it's social media? Or maybe it's that fans don't talk enough shit anymore. Because while people shouldn't be subjected to unrelenting insults, heckling athletes during a game is the only reason fans are in attendance.
