It may sound basic to say, but speed limits exist for a reason. That reason is, without them, we’d all just drive however the hell fast we want — a move that would likely kill a bunch of people. Speed limits cause people to be just a little bit more cautious so that only a couple tens of thousands of Americans die in car crashes every year.

See? It’s a great system.

If one ignores the speed limit, it makes it difficult for oncoming drivers to see them, as this motorcyclist learned with his body. Fair warning: The video is pretty intense.
