The latest adversary in the war against fentanyl? None other than the Sinaloa cartel.
According to members of the international crime ring, the “Chapitos” — the nickname for four of incarcerated drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s sons that are running the operation — are cracking down on the production and sale of the powerful synthetic opioid within their territories.

Though this new approach to fentanyl comes after several incidents regarding the Sinaloa cartel, including the capture of Chapitos leader Ovidio Guzmán back in January and the United States indictment of the Chapitos and several of their colleagues later in the spring, they’re not messing around.
The punishment for violating these new policies, they said, may include death, a sentiment outlined in several banners signed with the drug-dealing quartet’s moniker.

“In Sinaloa, the sale, manufacture, transport or any kind of business involving the substance known as fentanyl, including the sale of chemical products for its elaboration, is permanently banned,” read one banner hung in the Mexican city of Culiacán, according to The Wall Street Journal. “You have been warned. Sincerely yours, the Chapitos.”
But this appears to be far from the only sign warning against the sale of drugs.
“Due to the epidemic that plagues our country and our neighbor's and the loyalty to our principles, we want to aid government efforts and CDS to eradicate the lethal drug known as FENTANYL,” read another purported poster, images of which have been shared to the r/Pics subreddit and translated by users in the comments. “Now it won't just be forbidden as it always has been within our business but now we will persecute [sic] and punish the people who make, sell, transport, or lace this drug.”
