Man Creates App to Stop People From Getting Parking Tickets. The Government Shut It Down Four Hours Later
Nothing good in this world will last.

Despite cars overrunning basically every American city, parking in most major metropolises is a nightmare. You’d think that it wouldn’t be, given that we’ve killed basically all public transportation to cede more ground to cars — and yet, here we are paying $30 for parking relatively close to downtown! Make it make sense!
Rather than make it easier to park — or, I don’t know, invest in some decent public transit — many cities have found that it’s easier to put more cops on the street to charge people for breaking parking rules.
One dude got sick of it, and so, he reverse engineered the San Francisco parking ticket system in order to determine where parking cops were and how many tickets they were writing.
Seeing this, the government shut down the service in around four hours.
Why did they shut it all down? It’s uncertain, but I’d guess that it has something to do with “the city doesn’t want you avoiding paying parking tickets.” Seeing the amount they make from them, that’s understandable — before being shut down, one officer fined parkers more than $15,000 in a single day.
For the time being, creator Riley Walz has figured out a workaround to put the site back up and keep it operational, meaning that you can still see just how much the city of San Francisco is raking in from illegal parkers.
Spoiler: It’s a lot!
