If you’re trusted with a company credit card, it can be tempting to spend money on it with only a passing connection to the company. Lunch? Sure, a worker’s gotta eat. Groceries? What, you think I need to stop eating just because I go home? This is fuel for my return to the office! A custom letterman jacket with your name on it? Heck, throw the company logo on it and it’s suddenly a credit card-worthy buy!
Unfortunately, companies really don’t like it when you do this — and if you do it too much, they may come after you. One Iowa man is learning that the hard way after spending over $140,000 on Pokemon cards and video games, then altering his invoices to hide his purchases.
His company, Ruan Transportation Corporation, soon realized that something was up (and that they *didn’t* actually need a mint condition Rayquaza card to continue operating as normal), and so, they went after him, eventually resulting in a prison sentence in addition to fully repaying all the money spent and then some.
But, for a few glorious moments, that man was king. Hopefully he gets to keep the cards.
