Apple’s 2025 Event was mostly filled with duds. Oh cool, there’s a new iPhone that’s basically the same as the old one except it's more expensive. Oh great, there’s a new Apple Watch that’s *also* basically the same as the old one. Where’s the innovation?
That innovation may have found a home in the new AirPods, which Apple says will be able to process and translate conversations in real-time. While this sounds cool, people are worried that suddenly having access to another language may not be good for our society.
“Apple’s live translation feature is about to get a lot of people fired,” wrote one X user. “this is cool except it ruins the universal experience of irish people using the little gaelige they have to [complain] about people abroad,” added another. “That live translation function is going to take my inability to mind my own business to the next level!!!” exclaimed a third.
Basically, the fear is that, if you were ever paranoid that someone around you speaking another language was secretly gossiping about you, you can now have those fears confirmed. But don’t worry, they’re probably not talking about you. Probably.
