It’s a pretty tense time to be located right next to Russia. After the invasion of Ukraine, neighboring countries are on high alert, taking every precaution to protect themselves — while also trying not to provoke their unpredictable neighbor.

Sometimes, however, that vigilance leads to some funny consequences. For example, Lithuania recently shut down their airspace after dozens of balloons entered their airspace from Belarus.

What were those balloons carrying? Weapons? Illicit materials? Nah, just some untaxed smokes.

Incredibly, this isn’t even the first time this has happened. There have been multiple airspace closures this year alone thanks to the smuggling issue, and it doesn’t seem like the smugglers are slowing down.

Lesson: if you’re in Lithuania and craving a discount smoke, just hang out near the border and do a little target practice on some balloons!
