‘It’s Like Throwing Catnip at Cats’: Math Teachers Say the New ‘6 7’ Meme is Making Their Lives Hell
Don’t know what this meme is? Well, you shouldn’t.

If you have kids, say the words “six-seven” around them. If they immediately collapse into laughter, I’m sorry, but your child’s brain has been broken by the internet.
The meme’s origins trace back to a Skrilla song called “Doot Doot,” which has a lyric that likely references 67th Street in Philadelphia and basketball player LaMelo Ball, who stands 6' 7". However, like most memes, its current meaning is totally removed from this source. Now, if you show a Gen-Alpha kid the numbers 6 and 7 in order without any context and they’ll start cackling like a hyena.
This is annoying in everyday life, but, as the Wall Street Journal reports, it’s become especially annoying for math teachers, whose entire job relies on them saying numbers.
“If you’re like, ‘Hey, you need to do questions six, seven,’ they just immediately start yelling, ‘Six Seven!’” said one teacher interviewed for the piece. “It’s like throwing catnip at cats.”
The meme’s gotten so disruptive that teachers are actively avoiding saying either numbers, while others say they’re attempting to kill the meme by embracing it. As we all know, nothing kills a meme faster than adults trying to use it.
