Two boaters’ day on the lake came to a fiery, James Bond-ian end last week, jumping off their burning boat moments before it exploded in the middle of West Grand Traverse Bay in Northwest Michigan, per local news outlet ABC11.
“It’s too late, guys! It’s too late!” yelled Nathan Greenwood, a passing boater who happened to catch the inferno on camera, warning the duo to “get off the boat!”
“It’s gonna blow,” he continued, his wife chiming in. “Jump out right now!” she said.
Despite the boater’s initial confusion, the pair ultimately decided to jump ship, a decision that arguably saved both of their lives. The vessel ultimately succumbed to its damage, sinking into the abyss … or, well to the bottom the Bay’s 620ft depths.
"I knew very quickly that if they did not get off the boat, they were either going to pass out from the inhalation of the smoke, the heat, or it would end up eventually exploding," Greenwood told the local ABC affiliate of the tense moment. "It's really fortunate because within three seconds of them jumping off of the boat, it exploded."
Somewhere in the ether, a tear of pride is rolling down [INSERT BUFF, BALD ACTION HERO HERE’S] cheek.
