A 50-year-old woman named Madi was recently arrested after causing a disturbance with her public freakout at a Mexican restaurant. The cause of her freakout? A crying baby.
In several TikTok videos, Madi shares footage from the time she “got into a fist fight” with a woman at a Mexican restaurant who screamed at her about her child, resulting in an altercation that required intervention from the security officers on-site.
In the first video, the woman can be seen shouting at everyone around her, “Then don’t bring your fucking baby in a fucking restaurant,” as multiple men position themselves in between the woman and Madi, who’s filming.
In another video, we can hear more of the woman’s complaints about how loudly the baby was crying and about how she could hear the baby from the other side of the restaurant. We also see other patrons sticking up for the mom and baby and security officers beginning to intervene.
Eventually, the security officers tell the crowd that everyone’s going to get their food to go, and as the woman continues to try and argue, the officer shouts at her to “STOP!” and explains, “If we stay, people are going to jail.” The woman then flips off Madi and calls her a “fucking whore,” after which the camera cuts to her being arrested by the officers.
In her explanation video, Madi explains that the entire restaurant rallied against this woman “because she was being so feral,” and clarifies that her children weren’t crying the entire time, and she would have left the restaurant if they were. Her son did complain after his grandmother took a pen away from him, however, which is what prompted the aggressive woman to complain. At that point, Madi ran over (to the wrong table initially) to confront the woman, who then pushed her, which Madi called a “green light” for further confrontation. She adds that when the officers gave everyone the choice to take their food to go and leave, her family did, but the aggressive woman did not.
This level of public freakout and extreme altercation over a child making noise in a public place is a lot, particularly when you’re somewhere that bills itself as a family restaurant. Instead of requiring mothers with young children to sequester themselves in their homes until their children are older, maybe people who resort to violence when annoyed by the noises a child makes should be the ones to avoid shared spaces.
