For many young people, home ownership is no longer an achievable goal; it’s almost completely out-of-reach, a pie-in-the-sky idea sold to us by older generations who had both wages that kept pace with the cost of living and more affordable housing options.

One millennial creator is on a mission to either depress everyone under the age of 40 or highlight just how insane housing costs have become with a series in which he compares homes available in Canada with literal European castles — in every case, the castle is a better deal.

In the above video, MillennialMoron walks us through the listing for a four-bed, three-bath home in Vaughan, Ontario, which has definitely seen better days. The listing describes it as a “handyman special,” a mysterious turn of phrase that makes little sense until you see photos of the listing, which feature a house in need of a fair amount of repair — this is where the handyman would come in handy, presumably. There’s also an alarming amount of “black stuff” all over the floors, which is probably excessive mold per a note posted on the house, and a massive pile of junk that occupies an entire room.

For just $759,000CAD, or $553,656USD, this palace could be yours. Alternatively, you could spend €499,000, or $553,656USD, and buy a castle in La Charité-sur-Loire, a town on the eastern bank of the Loire river.

If those savings aren’t enough for you, consider that the Ontario home actually recently sold for $1.09 million CAD, or $795,095USD, so you’d be saving over $200,000 by buying the French castle. With those numbers, it’s a no brainer — pack your bags, kids, we’re moving to France!

In another video, MillennialMoron walks us through the listing of a two-bed, two-bath in Ottawa, the asking price of which is $1.32 million CAD, or $962,814USD.

Instead of spending all of that money just to live in Ottawa, consider buying an Italian castle for €900,000, or $967,504USD. It’s your classic 18-bed, 12-bath castle in Montegabbione in central Italy, almost exactly in the middle of Rome and Florence. But sure, I guess Ottawa’s cool too.
