St. Patrick’s Day gets wild here in the U.S. but it’s not strictly faithful to Irish culture and traditions. Now Ireland has joined in on the holiday stealing by celebrating the Fourth of July like all Americans do, getting plastered.
TikTok user Jessica Benson (@jbjams) traveled to Killarney, Ireland, and was confused seeing American flags everywhere.
Killarney, to her surprise, plans a huge parade and street party to celebrate the day Americans declared independence from Britain.
“We started 10 years ago 'cause we thought it looked like drunken fun,” explains a waitress Benson talked to about the holiday sharing.
And can you blame them? The Fourth of July is the perfect holiday, even for non-Americans. It’s a bank holiday where you are almost required to have a barbecue, get drunk, and watch fireworks.
Other videos of the Irish’s celebration include the mayor of Killarney dropping the American flag while attempting to raise it and men dressed as cowboys dueling people outside the pub.
This is the type of cultural exchange that can bring peace to the world. Why should only Americans enjoy eating a hot dog outside while “Party in The USA” plays? True freedom is celebrating an entirely different country's independence. With sparklers.
