We’re all fairly desensitized to YouTuber and TikToker stunts by now; people dancing or acting out in public barely fazes us anymore. Apparently, some of us still have the capacity to be surprised, however, if one YouTuber’s stunt is anything to go by.
YouTuber and influencer Kristy Scott recently shared a video about her and her husband Desmond going on a date to Chick-fil-A… while she was dressed as Handsome Squidward.
Handsome Squidward refers to a transformation undergone by SpongeBob SquarePants character Squidward Tentacles to make him unnaturally handsome in the 2007 episode “The Two Faces of Squidward.” Like almost everything from SpongeBob, Handsome Squidward has since become a meme, and there’s even an Instagram filter that allows people to pretend their own faces are as handsome as Squidward’s. The filter, already popular, gained even more attention when Irish singer-songwriter Hozier accidentally uploaded videos to his Instagram Stories of his own face transformed.
Kristy didn’t use a filter, however; she fully committed to the bit, painting herself pale green like Squidward and using makeup and foam to give herself a gigantic head. Her transformation was made complete by a black pants, black boots and a brown T-shirt that hid a muscle suit.
The video shows the couple walking into the restaurant, ordering, sitting down and receiving their food before they’re approached by an employee, clearly in awe of what he’s witnessing. As Kristy begins to enjoy her meal, she clutches her burger and mutters, “As long as it’s not a Krabby Patty,” referencing Squidward’s long-standing beef with SpongeBob, employee of the Krusty Krab.
People were simultaneously impressed by both Kristy’s fearlessness and her husband’s supportiveness. One woman commented, “ poor Desmond he deserves an award for being such a supportive husband. I pray that God will bless me with a husband as supportive as him,” while someone else wrote, “Social anxiety is anxious of her.”
Scott posted several other videos featuring her Handsome Squidward costume, including one in which she surprises her husband in costume while he’s napping on the couch, and another where she surprises him while he’s washing up. As one person astutely commented, “May this man someday know peace.”
