Store owners have tried everything to deter shoplifters, ranging from increasing security to putting darn near everything behind glass. Now, one Uruguayan shopkeeper has revealed a new innovation in the world of loss prevention — and it involves a Coca-Cola bottle.
In a video posted to r/PublicFreakout, a skirmish can be seen between an alleged shoplifter and a security guard. There’s a bit of back and forth between them — the shoplifter pushes some carts, the security guard pushes them back. Eventually, the shoplifter breaks away, looking like he’s about to make a daring escape.
Then, our hero steps in. Wielding only a Coke bottle, the store employee becomes Agent 47 as he whips the soda bottle directly at the man’s head, knocking him down with a single blow. The bottle even manages to land in the cart afterward — truly a performance for the ages.
“Thanks to the employee’s aim, the guard was able to compose himself and was able to hold the man until the authorities arrived,” explains a local report from the publication Los Andes. The video also apparently became a meme on Uruguayan social media, with many dubbing the attacker’s method as “Cocacolazo.” Spanish speakers in comments will have to let me know if that’s funny.
Over on Reddit, users marveled at the employee’s skill. “Two handed over-the-head technique with amazing hip follow through 10/10,” wrote one user. “How are you that accurate with a 2-liter Coke bottle?” questioned another. “Rung his ass up,” declared a third.
Can’t beat the real thing indeed.
