For context, it’s elk mating season. This means that male elks are on the hunt for lucky lady elks who are single and ready to mingle. For some reason this process is called “elk rut,” but I’m just going to keep calling it elk mating season.


All of this pent-up sexual frustration can lead to some interesting behaviors. For example, male elks let out weird shrieks called “bugles” during this time. You might not like it, but trust me, female elks think this is the sexiest thing in the world.




Of course, male elks can also get pretty aggressive during Elk Mating Season, even losing up to 20 percent of their body weight while defending their female companions from other males. Fellas, you ever get so horny you lose 20 percent of your body weight?


Elks can take this aggression out on non-elks. Take, for example, this video, where an elk threatens a car while one of the passengers tells the driver to “BACK UP, JACK!”
