Despite standing as a landmark of New London, Connecticut for a little more than two centuries, one historic steeple decided it had seen enough, crumbling to the ground in a heap of wood and stone.

Though it remains unclear what prompted the portion of Engaging Heaven Church, which was built in 1810, to fall, it appears that no one was hurt — one person was reportedly in the building at the time of the incident on Thursday afternoon — but that God himself had also been briefed on the incident.
“No one else was inside that we are aware of,” Pastor Bob, the pastor of Engaging Heaven Church, wrote on Facebook, noting that nobody else was believed to be outside at the time of the fall.
“God is aware of the situation,” he continued. “He is not shaken and neither [sic] are we!”
While Pastor Bob and church officials may not be shaken, it appears their former house of worship will most definitely be. Shortly after the incident, officials announced that they would demolish the remainder of the church, per local news outlet NECN.
Structural support: It matters.
