Healthcare Provider Apologizes After Accidentally Telling Hundreds of People They Passed Away

Nothing ruins your morning quite like being told you no longer exist.

MaineHealth, the largest healthcare provider in the state of Maine, has issued an apology after it accidentally sent more than 500 people letters informing them that they had passed away.

The letter, it turns out, is a standard form typically sent to family members when a patient shuffles off this mortal coil. However, thanks to a computer glitch, around 520 of these letters were sent to still-living patients.

Thankfully, the agency says the error did not affect medical records and was a one-off glitch, and that all of those affected have since been sent apology notices.

But hey, save that “You’re gone” letter — you might be able to use it to score a few days off work!
