The Reddit user Murky_Coyote_7737 posted this question in the subreddit r/legal advice, asking about a uniquely crappy sensory deprivation tank experience. Murky allegedly went for his experience before learning that he had contracted norovirus, and after some feverish hallucinations in the tank, woke up to a horrid smell and the discovery that he was lying in a pool of his own diarrhea. The facility is now holding him liable for the replacement of the $8,000 tank, claiming that they cannot safely disinfect it.
Fortunately for Murky, Reddit seems quite confident that he will not be liable for the replacement of the entire tube. "This is something their insurance should cover. I expect the insurance will pay to clean the tank, not replace it because it's not reasonable to replace an entire tank over this." "The business 'not feeling' like it can sanitize it is just that, a feeling not a fact."
Another user claiming to have worked for a sensory deprivation experience relays their expertise, and that the fluid might already be grosser than we'd like to admit. "They have to completely empty the tank and there are about 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in the water and the cost of shutting down one of the tanks to get it operational again." This of course implies that the fluid is not drained in between sessions and that Murky might be liable for some salt as well.
Also if they really can't clean it after someone shits in it them they also can't clean it after regular daily use

Real or not, this is a hilarious story of an experience gone wrong, and the convergence of bathroom humor with the gravity of the law.
