As we’ve discussed before, there’s no easier way to be shamed online than posting a bad food pic. Knowing this, but still wanting to Never Stop Posting, some try to disguise their terrible meals by glamming up the picture. They angle the photo carefully to make the meal look actually appealing, or they rearrange their plate for prime Likeability.

Or in the case of former Congresswoman Mayra Flores, you just steal pics from the internet and pass them off as your own.

Earlier this year, Flores was called out after posting an image of what she said was “gorditas de masa,” writing in the post that “the Ranch life with family is the best.”

I’ll be honest, I’m not too familiar with “gorditas de masa.” Apparently neither is Flores, because soon after she posted it, aggressively online people found that she had taken the image from the internet — specifically, a tourism page for the country of Guyana.

Naturally, this launched a full-scale investigation into every food photo Flores has ever taken. Current Revolt helmed most of this research, and through their internet sleuthing, they found that this was a pattern of behavior for Flores. A dish with soft cheese she posted in September could be found as far back as 2021, and another picture from the “ranch” actually came from a different, ranch-themed account back in 2019.

This happened again and again, Current Revolt discovered. What they did not uncover, however, was why. Like, why does one do this?

Flores, listen to me. You’re running for Congress — you don’t need to pretend you can cook, you need to pretend you can govern. No one is going to judge you if you don’t post food, but if you really want to do it, just head down to some horrible restaurant in your district and get a photo eating the messiest thing on the menu. Your constituents will love it, and who knows? You may even go viral for the *right* reasons this time.
