Florida Officials Beg People Not to Eat Feral Hogs After Man Is Hospitalized With Rare Infection
Okay — but let me try it just once.

I think it’s fair to say that we’re all intrigued by the idea of exotic meat, but most of us aren’t daring — or stupid — enough to actually try it.
However, most of us don’t live in Florida. According to VICE, a man was hospitalized in the state after it was discovered that he had an infection called “B. suis,” which is zoonotic and can be transmitted through direct contact with animals or by consuming contaminated animal products.
Not only did the man have this infection, but it had somehow made its way into his cardiac defibrillator implant — meaning that solving it required the implant to be completely replaced.
While the man was confused about how he could have gotten such an infection, all questions were answered when he remembered that, whoops, he actually ate a bunch of feral hog meat his friend gave him. Now, officials in Florida have a message: If you’re thinking about eating feral hog meat, don’t (or at the very least, prepare it properly).
