Great news for Peter Thiel, clout chasers, and all five people who still somehow believe in effective altruism –YouTuber MrBeast narrowly avoided death via submarine implosion, claiming that he was almost among the passengers on OceanGate’s Titan submersible – if his screenshots are to be believed.
Days after all five crew members were confirmed to have died following a “catastrophic implosion,” as officials called it, MrBeast – a.k.a. Jimmy Donaldson – found a way to insert himself into the ordeal, publicly claiming he was invited on that fateful trip to the Titanic wreckage.
“I was invited earlier this month to ride the Titanic submarine, I said no. Kind of scary that I could have been on it,” Donaldson wrote in a message on Twitter, including a screengrab allegedly depicting his invitation onto the ill-fated deep sea voyage.

“Also, I’m going to the Titanic in a submarine late this month,” read a portion of the cropped message. “The team would be stoked to have you along.”
Instantly eliciting comparisons to yet another travel-related tragedy – “this is the "Seth Macfarlane got drunk and missed one of the 9/11 flights" of this generation,” mused @Necksplitter – others offered a more wistful take on the effective altruist mass extinction event that nearly was.

“Imagine realizing you have seconds to live before your submarine hull implodes and turning around and seeing MrBeast soyfacing for a thumbnail,” penned @s4cett.
“A Titanic sub with YouTube influencers would have been too perfect,” mused @yashalevine.

As Donaldson’s post began garnering viral attention, several questions emerged surrounding the validity of his tweet – namely, why the hell was that text blue, the standard color of outgoing texts on Apple’s IOS.

“MrBeast the blue means you were inviting a friend to the Titanic,” wrote @BrotiGupta.
“This is exactly like when I got invited to go on the Hindenburg,” quipped @VilifiedPeanut alongside a faked screenshot appearing to invite them on the ill-fated airship. “kind of scary bruh.”
“You know it's not true because he turned down something that would've shown people how rich he is,” added @Freshcoralblast.
My friend sent me the screenshot of when he invited me. Didn’t think to scroll up and screenshot our old texts myself.

Amid these questions and accusations, Donaldson took to the platform claiming that the message was not, in fact, fake – he just couldn’t be bothered to scroll back.
“My friend sent me the screenshot of when he invited me,” he replied.
RIP, Titan. Your implosion was almost a hell of a lot funnier.
