While the jury is still out on whether the man should pay on the first date — make up your mind, fellas, is chivalry dead or not? — a math-savvy influencer recently debunked the long-running argument that the price of a woman’s beauty routine should exempt her from picking up the tab.

In the now viral clip, which has since been re-uploaded to r/TikTokCringe, an influencer did her damndest to prove that the cost of getting ready for a date can be pricier than the date itself, offering an item-by-item breakdown of every product she would use before meeting her crush.

But even after citing her $98 moisturizer, a $32 face cream and luxury foundation worth $65 as reasons “why men should pay on the first date,” one viewer wasn’t sold, breaking down the cost on a much more reasonable scale, dividing the contents of the entire package by the amount she actually used. Though she may have calculated that her beauty routine was worth an eye-popping $758, our numerically-minded buddy found that when divvied up, she would have only spent roughly $12 on doing her hair and makeup for her big night.

We can only hope she really likes McDonald’s … either that or she dates a guy who is more into chivalry than being pedantic.
