Back in 2012, a 61-year-old Oregon man named John Wyllie won “$5,000 a week forever” from Publishers Clearing House, per KGW8. This took the form of an annual check for $260,000, which was delivered to him every January.

To hear him tell it, Wyllie had a lot of fun with his money. He bought a house, a jet ski and more. However, this year, Wyllie didn’t receive a check — because Publishers Clearing House declared bankruptcy and decided that they’re just not going to pay people out anymore.

Wyllie calls the situation a “nightmare,” saying that, because he had retired thanks to these checks, he may need to reenter the workforce after years of unemployment. Not only that, but he’ll need to sell a lot of the stuff he bought with the money — including his house.

Wyllie isn’t alone in this pain. There are at least 10 other winners who won’t be getting their payments, and while they may be able to get *some* funds from the bankruptcy estate, it’s not gonna be an annual check for $260k.

Well, sorry about that, John. Hopefully you can dry your tears with whatever’s left of the ~$3 million you’ve already received.
