Dogs are commonly known as man’s best friend, but that friendship can be called into question when your canine companion shows signs of being a shapeshifting witch known as a skinwalker.

For those of you unfamiliar with skinwalkers, they’re malevolent witches that can transform into animals. Their origins come from Navajo mythology, and it’s believed that one gains this shape-shifting ability by committing a particularly evil act, such as killing a family member.

Along with the power of turning into animals, most commonly wolves or dogs, skinwalkers are believed to have supernatural speed and strength, mind control powers, and the ability to mimic any voice to trick potential victims.

In terms of appearance, skinwalkers obviously can be difficult to spot due to the fact that they look exactly like normal animals. However, there are a few giveaways, including glowing eyes and being able to walk on their hind legs. Plus, as I mentioned before, if your pet starts talking to you, that means you may have a skinwalker on your hands.

Skinwalker sightings are rare, but occasionally, a video will pop up of an animal behaving in a way that’s almost human, and the believers will insist we’re witnessing a shape-shifting beast before our very eyes.

The most common trend has been dog owners who become convinced their very good boy might have some tricks up their metaphorical sleeve besides rolling over and sitting, though a lot of these are played more with a comedic effect than real terror. Still, seeing a dog waltz around on their hind legs is always pretty unsettling, whether it’s supernatural or not.
