The Life of a Showgirl was released over the weekend, and even Swifites aren’t too thrilled about it.

Promotion around this album, like many other Taylor Swift albums, involved the release of multiple versions with different covers — all of which, of course, were available for preorder.

Now, the album is out, and Swifties are finally getting their shipments. The issue is that the album just isn’t very good.

While the fan consensus seems to be that the production on the album is fine, the songwriting ranges from lackluster to embarrassing.

Has Swift always been a bit embarrassing? Sure, and for her fans, that’s part of her charm. But after listening to 12 underwritten tracks that feel bereft of any real meaning or emotional weight, the sting of “Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet to know a hard rock is on the way” hurts just a liiiittle bit more. Actually, it hurts so much more that some fans are trying to figure out how to ditch the dozens of copies they ordered.

Soon after the album was released, users began posting about how they regretted having so many copies of the album in the mail. Not only that, but Redditors created threads asking people what they were going to do with all their extra copies. Many said they were attempting to either get a refund for the album, or that they were planning on regifting it.

Of course, there are also plenty of fans who loved the album and said they planned on keeping it. Overall — and to be charitable — let’s call it a “mixed bag.”
