Though Gen Z and millennials may be in far too much crippling debt to live their boating dreams, boatless TikTokers aren’t above helping out a boating entrepreneur make his come true.
Earlier this week, boating app Argo and its founder, Jeff Foulk, found themselves in the TikTok limelight after his daughter, Megan, took to the video-sharing platform with an emotional request that implored viewers to download her dad’s navigational and social platform.
“Help blow up dads boating app,” she wrote alongside a clip of her dad getting repeatedly ignored by passersby at a boating convention, a slowed, piano rendition of Wiz Khalifa’s poignant hit, “See You Again,” playing in the background. “He’s worked so hard on it and just wants people to try it out.”
It seems Megan’s plea — one so emotional it makes the Sarah McLachlan SPCA commercial look like 21 Jump Street — actually worked.
“He didn’t know I took the video. I showed him at 100 likes, and he was like, ‘Okay.’ I showed him at 1,000 likes, and he was like, ‘Okay.’ Then it just kept going,” she explained in a recent interview with Baltimore’s ABC News affiliate, WMAR.
Though Jeff was seemingly taken aback by these metrics at the start — whose dad *doesn’t* think getting even two RTs is “doing numbers”? — his excitement grew as Argo’s TikTok fame began turning into downloads.
“It was the views, but when it started translating to downloads and emails, it wasn’t a million, it was several million,” he recalled to WMAR, describing TikTok’s “overwhelming support” as “just incredible.”
And with its five-star rating, it seems the admiration is mutual. Aye aye, Captain Jeff.
