One zoon in Eastern China recently found itself in a grizzly situation after they were forced to clarify that their Mayalan bears were actually bears and not just furries too committed to the bit.

The Hangzhou Zoo headed to social media on Monday to relay a message from one of their Malayan sun bears named Angela, explaining that just because she and her pals like to stand on their hind legs, as depicted in several conspiracy-sparking viral videos, doesn’t mean that they’re secretly human.

“Some people think I stand like a person. It seems you don’t understand me very well,” the shockingly literate bear — or more likely, her trainers — wrote on social media.

“When it comes to bears, the first thing that comes to mind is a huge figure and amazing power … But not all bears are behemoths and danger personified,” she continued.  “We Malayan bears are petite, the smallest bear in the world.”

But if Angela’s argument of being too cute and tiny to be a human wasn’t enough to sway you, a statement from one of the zoo’s spokespeople  — who knows a suspicious amount about fursuits — just might change your mind.

“If a person did wear a bear costume, they would be lying down within minutes due to the heat,” he explained in a WeChat recording, referencing the region’s skyrocketing summer temperatures consistently exceeding 90 degrees.

We can only hope that Angela and her friends can return to their private lives in their enclosure. All this press must be unbearable.
