In what is surely one of the more dramatic examples of a child feeling possessed by the spirit of the lord, a child fainted in the background of a ceremony dedicated to the signing of a law that would require public schools in the state of Louisiana to teach the Ten Commandments.
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) invokes biblical figures as he signs a law requiring public school classrooms in the state to display the Ten Commandments:

During the ceremony, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed the bill while giving a speech about how teaching the Ten Commandments ensures students will respect the rule of law, considering the commandments are the “original law given.” One little girl, standing directly behind Landry, was either having a terrible day or felt overcome by the holy spirit, as she crumpled to the ground in the middle of Landry’s speech, causing adults around her to rush to her aid. Landry, facing the cameras, was oblivious, and continued rambling about Moses.
The law has been described as “Supreme Court bait” considering it violates the establishment cause and several Supreme Court precedents. According to The New Republic, a trip to the Supreme Court is precisely what Landry is hoping for by signing this bill. He reportedly told a group of Republican state lawmakers last week that he “can’t wait to be sued,” and considering the current makeup of the court, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the outcome might be.
Hope the girl who fainted is ok. She did provide the perfect symbol of Christion Nationalism: a typically ignorant GOP politician signing a stupid fucking unconstitutional bill into law while ignoring whatever actual human suffering is happening around him. https://t.co/0QTKkyYgom

Many online commenters were quick to condemn Landry’s lack of awareness about the fainting child behind him, with one calling the clip the “perfect symbol of Christian nationalism,” while others wanted to know why so many people continued to act as if nothing unusual had happened.
Journalists have reached out to Landry’s office to inquire after the girl, but according to the Huffington Post, nobody immediately responded. Hopefully she’s okay — she’s got a potentially First-Amendment violating class on the Ten Commandments to get to!
