Listen, the dating field is rough out there. You have men being actively mean, sending stream-of-consciousness voice DMs, and creating dating app success charts. So what better way of navigating these rough dating waters than meeting men where they are, sports bars.
Rachel James and her friend Amanda have decided they need to find boyfriends before Super Bowl Sunday, so they decided their best option was to go undercover as NFL fans. The besties are putting to the test “if watching football is better than dating apps.”
Operation “Boyfriends before Super Bowl” started week one of the NFL season with the women spinning a wheel of all 32 NFL teams to see which team they’d be rooting for. And for their luck, they landed on the Denver Broncos.
And while these women don’t know anything about football, they aren’t completely out of their depth, as James’ father gave her some tips on talking points including, a rundown of the Bronco's last game (ouch), overall reputation, and their odds of winning going into Sunday’s game.
While the ladies didn’t nab any numbers from their week one mission as undercover Broncos fans, they did load up on shots and bonded with a few zealous Broncos fans. During their week two attempt, donning the San Francisco 49er’s red and gold colors, the pair went on a bar crawl meeting two 49ers fans though one was engaged and the other didn’t put out.
The series is still in its infancy and no formal matches have been made yet. But James' video did get a lot of attention from multiple other NFL teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans trying to hook up their fans. Honestly, it must be nice to know your team thinks you and your fellow fans are hot enough to win “Boyfriends Before Super Bowl.”
So ladies, ditch those dating app losers who can barely keep up a conversation, all you need is some sports intel, a thrifted jersey, and one offer of a shot to get the boyfriend you need. Can’t wait to fast forward to Super Bowl Sunday when hopefully Rachel and Amanda are sharing seven-layer bean dip and wings with some committed hotties.
The only downside to James’ and her friend's challenge is that if they pitch the Bears, it’s going to be a very, very long season.
