When most people go to the club, they buy alcohol so they can drink alcohol. I know, a crazy concept.
However, there are some that see their alcohol purchase as a flex. These people are not content to crotch a plastic bottle refilled with Pinnacle — no, they must have the finest (read: most expensive) alcohol, delivered to their table with a host of sparklers. This culture of bottle popping has led to something called “Bottle Wars,” where rich patrons order bottle after bottle in competition with the tables around them.
At least with this style of bottle war, the goal was to actually drink booze, even if you couldn’t finish your 18 bottles of Grey Goose. But recently, a new front has been opened in the Bottle Wars: not drinking the alcohol at all.
For this development, we need to travel to Houston’s Space Nightclub. In a now-viral video, two opposing teams can be seen pouring out bottles of alcohol, egging each other on as they do. An announcer can be heard encouraging this, offering such casual suggestions as “POUR THAT **** THE **** OUT!”
Now, there may be more to this story. As the lights are on, it seems like this is at the end of the night, meaning they wouldn’t be able to drink all of the bottles anyway. Still, there are plenty of viable options that don’t involve pouring hundreds of dollars of alcohol onto what will be the world’s stickiest floor. For example, throwing a bottle in a bag, not buying that much alcohol in the first place, and, oh yeah, just drinking the extra booze.

While some are saying this is a one-off occurrence, a few Houston natives in the comments said this was a relatively common practice. “This not a trend,” declared a commenter. “We from Houston we been doing this in 2012.”
So if you’re looking to save a little extra money in Houston clubs, don’t buy bottles — just bring a cup and head off to the VIP section at closing time.
