Is it just me, or is there something going on with planes these days? Back in the day, we’d get one or two stories a year about something happening to or inside of a plane. Today, we get a crazy new plane story every week, ranging from passengers going wild to doors falling off mid-flight.

Now, it’s happened again. A Boeing 747 flown by Atlas Air for a cargo flight recently caught fire while in flight, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Miami.

“Mayday, mayday… We have an engine fire,” an audio recording from the cockpit said, according to NBC6. “Request access back to the airport. No, we’ll go ahead and land. We have five souls onboard.”

Thankfully, no one appears to have been injured, and the airline put out a statement saying, “The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to [Miami].”

Still, given the recent allegations from former employees that Boeing allowed items with an “excessive amount of defects” into its planes, seeing videos like this doesn’t feel great. Regardless, I’m going to keep flying — at least until the alternative is something better than a Greyhound.
